Vic: Single punch fells cricket legend in Melbourne street

MELBOURNE, Jan 19 AAP - A bloodstained roadway and some discarded medical packaging
were the only signs today of the events which left cricket legend David Hookes fighting
for his life.

A celebratory drink in the beachside Beaconsfield Hotel ended in violence when Hookes
was allegedly assaulted on a St Kilda street last night.

He had left the pub after a few beers with teammates and friends celebrating Victoria's
win over South Australia in yesterday's ING Cup one-day match.
