SACRAMENTO, Calif. Sept. 23 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Pointingout that most of the sponsoring organizations for California'sGubernatorial debates have legislative goals of their own, SteveKubby called on the media to extend campaign coverage to alternativecandidates.
Kubby, rallying Libertarians for a protest at tonight'sgubernatorial debate, said it is "unfair for all the state mediato cover the race for governor as though only two candidateswould be on the ballot."
The Libertarian Party candidate for governor said that there's solittle difference between the Democrats and Republicans that mostpeople stay home and don't even bother to vote. "You can't blamenon-voters when they don't think they have a real choice," saidKubby.
"Between Davis and Lungren in California and Clinton, Lewinsky,Starr and Hyde in Washington, the difference between the Democratsand Republicans is like the difference between Syphilis andGonorrhea," said Kubby.
Kubby and a group of Libertarian activists will be at Cal StateSacramento tonight to protest the exclusion of minority candidateswhen Lt. Gov. Gray Davis and Attorney General Dan Lungren meet.
At the same time, Kubby will participate in the Internet debate ond-net by transmitting his answers to the debate question via cellularphone and modem up links. "They can't keep us out forever," saidKubby. He noted the declining audience shares for networktelevision while segmented cable networks and the Internet arerapidly growing. Between changing media habits and with the onlygrowth areas in voter registration being those for third parties andindependents Kubby says the big-parties' monopoly on the electionprocess can't last long.
"Libertarians are on the cutting edge of the new communicationtechnologies and it won't be long before the big-monied candidatesworking in collusion with the big special interests and big-mediainterests won't matter because people will find all the news theywant in new locations," Kubby said.
